Questions people actually ask
How many days does Udaipur deserve?
Most people give it two and wish they had given four. It is the one Rajasthani city where doing very little is the correct itinerary.
Is the Lake Pichola boat worth it?
It is the best hour in Udaipur. Take the late-afternoon departure — the palaces go gold, the light drops, and the whole city rearranges itself.
Can we visit the Lake Palace hotel?
Only as a resident or with a restaurant reservation, which is limited and books ahead. The boat passes close enough for the photograph either way.
Does the lake ever dry up?
In years of poor monsoon it drops sharply and boats may not run. It is worth checking in April and May of a dry year before building a day around it.
Is there good shopping?
Miniature painting, which Udaipur is genuinely famous for. Prices range from tourist trinket to serious work — your guide will show you the difference rather than take you to a commission shop.
Is it a good first stop in Rajasthan?
It is the gentlest, so it works well as a landing point or as a recovery after Jaipur and Jodhpur. There is no wrong order, only a wrong pace.
