Amber Fort Tickets, Jaipur
From $8About 2 hoursTicket
Entry to Amber Fort, the hilltop palace above Maota Lake with the mirrored Sheesh Mahal at its heart. Open daily from 08:00, and the first two hours are by far the best of them.
What is included
- Amber Fort entry ticket
- Instant mobile voucher
- Jeep or elephant ride up to the gate
- Guide
- The evening sound-and-light show
The day, hour by hour
- Choosing a time
Be there for opening at 08:00
By 10:30 the coach groups arrive and the Sheesh Mahal becomes a queue rather than a room.
- Getting up the hill
Jeep, elephant or on foot
The jeep takes four minutes. The walk takes fifteen and is genuinely pleasant in the morning cool. We would skip the elephants.
- Inside
Four courtyards
Work upward and inward. Sheesh Mahal is in the third courtyard and is the reason the fort is famous.
- After
Panna Meena ka Kund
The stepwell five minutes away is free, nearly empty and one of the best photographs in Rajasthan.

Questions people actually ask
What time does Amber Fort open?
08:00, and being there for it changes the visit completely. The fort is at its emptiest and coolest in the first two hours, and the Sheesh Mahal is a genuinely different room without a crowd in it.
Is the composite ticket worth buying?
If you are seeing three or more Jaipur monuments in two days, yes — it covers Amber, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh and Albert Hall for roughly the price of two separate entries.
Should I ride an elephant up?
We would not. The rides are short and heavily queued, welfare standards vary, and a jeep does the same climb in four minutes. Walking up is free and pleasant before the heat.
Do I need a guide?
The fort rewards one, because the layout is confusing and the history is genuinely good. Licensed guides are available at the gate; agree the fee before you start.
Is Jaigarh Fort included?
No, it is a separate ticket and a separate fortress up the hill, connected by a tunnel. Worth it if you like fortifications and have half a day.
Is it accessible?
Not really. The approach is a steep ramp and the interior is stepped stone throughout. The jeep gets you to the main gate but not much further.
